Negli ultimi giorni lo zero termico è stato stazionario verso i 3000 m ed il cielo generalmente nuvoloso: tali condizioni non consentono un rigelo ottimale, che è pertanto limitato ad uno strato superficiale più sottile. Limite delle nevicate intorno a 2200 m. Dalla tarda mattinata odierna ampie schiarite e pomeriggio soleggiato. E' da prevedere nelle prossime ore un naturale scaricamento dei versanti, con piccole valanghe di neve umida o bagnata dai pendii ripidi soleggiati.

La settimana appena trascorsa è stata caratterizzata da un costante calo delle temperature minime, sottozero a 2000 m, e cielo sereno: quindi buone condizioni generali, grazie all'ottimo rigelo notturno (crosta da fusione/rigelo spessa anche 30 cm). Mercoledì 16 maggio è stata la giornata più fredda: a 2500 m le temperature sono rimaste sottozero durante tutto il giorno. L'attività valanghiva è stata pressoché assente o limitata alle ore più calde, con valanghe di neve bagnata dai pendii ripidi al sole.
Da ieri notte una perturbazione sta interessando tutta la Regione, con deboli nevicate fino a 2700 m; nelle zone comprese tra Valsavarenche, Valgrisenche, La Thuile ed il Monte Bianco, nella mattinata la neve è scesa momentaneamente fino a 1500 m. Quantitativi totali registrati: 10 cm di neve fresca a 3000 m.

Dopo le giornate soleggiate caratterizzate da temperature estive dei giorni scorsi, si registra in questi ultimi due giorni un sensibile abbassamento delle temperature con venti moderati da nord che hanno portato sulla nostra regione correnti fredde. In montagna sono ottime le condizioni di rigelo favoriscono l'attività che risulta però discontinua e di cui si ha uno scarso ritorno di informazioni. Risulta sempre dicreta l'attività scialpinistica favorita dalle recenti nevicate e dalle buone condizioni della neve. Gran Paradiso tracciato con ottime condizioni di neve portante in salita, utili i coltelli, temperature rigide soprattutto al mattino, si scende bene sino all'alpeggio s u neve ottima da sciare, Ormelune (Valgrisenche) molto frequentata, tutta in buone condizioni, frequentate anche le altre cime della zona, neve sempre ottima, temperature sottozero al mattino presto, consigliato l'uso dei coltelli. Arrampicata, Corma di Machaby, sono in corso i sopralluoghi e gli accertamenti. Se la conclusione sarà positiva, si procedera' ad avviare le procedure di revoca della chiusura.

Oltre i 2500 m si sono depositati, e rapidamente assestati, nelle prime ore di sabato 30 cm di neve fresca (40 cm oltre i 3000 m) e nella nottata tra sabato e domenica 5-10 cm. In quota dove sono presenti ingenti quantitativi di neve. Nelle ultime due nottate si è registrato un buon rigelo superficiale del manto nevoso fino a 2000-2200 m Le temperature primaverili, l'innalzamento del limite pioggia-neve e la nuova neve hanno favorito una decisa attività valanghiva spontanea: negli ultimi tre giorni si sono osservati molti scaricamenti e valanghe di medie dimensioni di neve bagnata, anche di fondo, verificatesi a tutte le esposizioni al di sopra dei 2500-2800 m. Si segnala una valanga di grandi dimensioni staccatasi da un pendio settentrionale molto ripido poco al di sopra dei 2800 m. Per i prossimi giorni il distacco provocato di masse nevose (lastroni alle diverse esposizioni e valanghe di neve bagnata prevalentemente sui pendii soleggiati) durante l'attività scialpinistica risulterà possibile anche al passaggio del singolo sciatore, Segnalazione: Crollo porzione roccia Becco dell'Aquila (Courmayeur) Si segnala che nella notte tra venerdi' e sabato scorsi e' caduto un masso di 20 metri cubi dal Becco dell'Aquila (sotto il Monte Chetif). L'area, ad alto rischio di frane, è chiusa insieme all'accesso della strada di Entrelevie.

The snowfall that affected the entire region peaked intensity maximum yesterday in the evening. The night temperatures were maintained just above freezing at 2000 m and just below zero to 2500 m. It snowed locally up to 2000 m, but generally you can find snow only above 2300 m. The quantities were lower than expected and more abundant in the valleys of Gran Paradiso and along the mountain borders with France and Switzerland: there are about 30 cm of wet snow up to 2800 m, while at high altitude the quantities are difficult to measure, because of the strong winds that accompanied the snowfall, drifting snow and forming new wind slab and accumulations. The avalanche activity will continue throughout the day, with many avalanches of wet snow, surface and ground, on the steep slopes up to 2800 m and surface slabs above 2400 m. At higher altitudes, in areas most affected by snow, avalanches will have large size. The danger for ski mountaineers/climbers/snowshoeing is represented by sluffs of wet snow, especially on steep sunny slopes up to 2800 m, and especially by soft slabs present at high altitude, more numerous on the northern slopes, where the trigger is possible even the passage of a single person. In montagna si registra un arresto dell'attività da ormai circa 20 giorni, solo l'attività degli scialpinisti è proseguita a singhiozzo durante le brevi schiarite intermittenti. Per quanto concerne l'arrampicata si ricorda che la falesia del Paretone e falesie limitrofe ad Arnad sono chiuse da un'ordinanza comunale a seguito di incidente mortale.

A seguito del grave incidente mortale avvenuto sulla parete Buccia d'arancia di Arnad, il sindaco Pierre Bonel ha firmato un'ordinanza che dispone la chiusura di tutta la palestra di roccia Corma di Machaby. Il provvedimento è stato richiesto dalla Comunità montana Evançon che, in quanto proprietaria dei terreni e gestore della palestra, ha preferito cautelarsi per permettere ulteriori verifiche sulla stabilità delle rocce. Oltre al famoso Paretone, rimarranno inaccessibili anche altre falesie più o meno vicine alla zona dell'incidente di sabato 21 aprile: il Pilastro Lomasti, la Gruviera, Case Fara e la Paretina. Mercoledì 2 maggio ci sarà un incontro in Comunità montana a Verrès in cui amministratori locali e regionali, guide alpine e protezione civile, affronteranno la delicata questione.

Last weekend there were clear spells mixed with snowy conditions above 1400-1600m, also of moderate intensity in the upper valley with up to 30cm of fresh snow at 2500m in Valdigne. The fresh and the recent snows have remained dry, above 2300-2500m because of the low temperatures. This snow has been easily disturbed by the moderately strong W-NW winds and therefore, above the tree-line, it has starting forming into unstable cornices and wind slabs mainly on the eastern side. The snow has been prevented from consolidating sufficiently due to a combination of layering many snowfalls, the action of the wind and the very cold temperatures. Great care should be taken near to changes in slope angle and beneath cornices. The ski-mountaineering tours are busy at the moment in the valleys of Gran Paradiso (Cima di Entrelor, Tour of Gran Paradiso and of the 4 mountain shelters) where there is excellent fresh snow: quite thick at the higher levels, with wetter and heavier snow in the lower parts. Continuous snow cover starts from 1600-1800m depending on exposure. Good knowledge of the territory and excellent ability to evaluate conditions are always necessary.

In the last two days the influence of western humid streams have brought rainfall all over the region, with snow level at 1200-1400 m. Above 2500 m, in the central and south-eastern areas of the region and in the Gran Paradiso valleys 10-15 cm of fresh snow were recorded, while along the alpine ridge the snowfall was more intense and peaks of 30 cm of fresh snow have been recorded. While this snow is still dry, the snow fallen earlier this week has been gradually moistened up to 3200-3300 m on the sunny slopes and up to 2700-2900 m on the northerly slopes. Above 2600-2800 m, 60 to 130 cm of loose snow can be found; on the southern aspects, inside this layer a melt and freeze crust, sometimes unbreakable, is present. The wind, which currently comes from W, transports easily the new snow that accumulates as new slabs on the NE-E-SE exposed slopes. Therefore for ski-touring and hiking activities, a good capacity to assess the choice of tours and a critical evaluation of the slopes, considering different aspects and altitudes, will be required, especially above the 2700-3000 m.

Aggiornamento da Alagna Vasesia. Dopo le ultime nevicate si rileva circa 1 metro di neve fresca a 3500 metri, si trova neve fino ai 2000 metri circa. Gli impianti per lo sci alpino sono chiusi, saranno aperti fino al 1 maggio gli impianti di risalita per l'attività di fuoripista e di scialpinismo in quota dove le condizioni sono buone.

Again the alpine ridge with the greater amount of fresh snow: 15-40 cm at 2000 m, with rain/snow limit at 800-1000 m. Precipitation have been more homogeneous at high altitude: 40-50 cm of fresh snow from the valley of Ayas, to the whole alpine ridge and to Valsavarenche. From the morning a moderate north-westerly wind above 2500 m has occured, which is drifting the dry snow and creating new wind accumulations on the southern slopes.
